Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman join David Beckham in the stands at Leagues Cup final
Hollywood star and Nashville SC co-owner Reese Witherspoon had the honor of carrying out the game ball on to the field ahead of the team’s Leagues Cup final loss to Inter Miami Saturday night.
The actress also took a pregame photo with Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.
The blonde beauty wore bright yellow and black sneakers in a nod to her team’s colors as she carried the soccer ball out on to the field.
While Beckham told Apple TV that he and co-owner Jorge Mas had ensured the entire Inter Miami staff were present for the final, Witherspoon brought the star power.
Specifically, Witherspoon shared a photo to Instagram of herself and pal Nicole Kidman posing for a selfie in the stands.
However, she wouldn’t have been beaming at halftime as Nashville trailed 1-0 after Lionel Messi’s sensational opener for Inter Miami.
Nashville SC would ultimately draw even before losing in penalties.
The Nashville native joined the ownership group in April 2022, along with media and technology investor Jim Toth and Tennessee Titans All-Pro running back Derrick Henry.
The trio came aboard just five days before Nashville Soccer Club opened its new home Geodis Park, where the final was being played out Saturday.
Before the game, Beckham had joined Witherspoon’s fellow Nashville co-owner, NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo on the field.
Antetokounmpo had some fun at Messi’s expense ahead of the Leagues Cup final match by emulating the Inter Miami star’s biggest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 6-foot-11 Antetokounmpo was hard to miss on the field before the championship game, doing television interviews and netting a free kick from about 30 yards away.
To celebrate his impromptu goal, Antetokounmpo did the pirouetting ‘SIU’ celebration, popularized by Ronaldo. Cameras did not appear to catch Messi’s reaction, but Antetoukounmpo’s brother and teammate, Thanasis, responded with laughter.
The sons of a former Nigerian association football player, the Antetokounmpo brothers were born in Athens and grew up in Greece as the country’s national team won the 2004 European Cup. In fact, Giannis’ oldest brother, Francis, has been a pro soccer player, while another brother Kostas, plays basketball for Istanbul’s Fenerbahçe – the same sporting club that has won 28 Turkish soccer titles.
But despite his family’s fondness for soccer, Giannis had not attended a Nashville SC game until Saturday, when Messi and Inter Miami came into town to play for the Leagues Cup title.
