David Beckham flashes a smile as he joins a group of female fans ahead of F1 Grand Prix in Qatar
He’s had a lot to smile about this week following the huge success of his Netflix documentary.
And David Beckham was beaming as he joined a group of female fans at Lusail International Circuit in Qatar ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday.
The former footballer, 48, took some time out from his tour of the McLaren garage for the photo, while the group looked elated to have bumped into him.
He looked as stylish as ever, teaming a double breasted checked blazer with a plain white T-shirt.
David topped off his look with a pair of smart trousers and took some circular sunglasses into his top pocket.
The sportsman later joined driver Lando Norris of Great Britain and McLaren.
It’s been a busy week for David, who launch his four-part documentary series on Netflix this week after Tuesday’s premiere in London.
The tell-all Beckham documentary sees the couple give an intimate insight into their marriage and early romance, their family life and David’s footballing career.
In the series, David revealed he was forced to cut his honeymoon with wife Victoria short after Sir Alex Ferguson hauled him back to training.
The footballer tied the knot with Victoria, 49, on July 4, 1999, at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland with the couple then jetting off to the South of France.
Speaking about the trip on his docuseries BECKHAM, David explained: ‘We had a short honeymoon. We ended up at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s house in the South of France – I have no idea how we ended up there!’
The couple looked more loved-up than ever in never-before-seen snaps from the trip, with the pair kissing in the ocean and cuddling up together in their swimwear.
Yet they crashed back to reality with a bang, with David explaining: ‘We were meant to be there for ten days but the manager called me about five days in said “I need you back in training”.’
David and Sir Alex had a famously fractious relationship and Gary Neville confirmed: ‘Ringing David up five days after his wedding is classic Sir Alex Ferguson. “Get back here you flash b*****d.”
‘Sir Alex Ferguson had an uncanny habit of bringing you back down to earth.’
Speaking in the docuseries, Manchester United legends revealed David and Victoria Beckham’s relationship used to ‘p*** off’ Sir Alex.
As they were both high-profile celebrities before dating, Posh and Becks generated extreme levels of publicity and media attention, and it’s claimed this angered Ferguson during the early stages of their relationship.
The manager believed that David’s relationship with Victoria ‘changed’ him as a footballer, as he was more focused on his celebrity status rather than his efforts on the pitch for Manchester United.
Former teammate Paul Scholes said: ‘His relationship with Victoria was p***ing the manager off. He thought it was affecting his football.’
Meanwhile, fellow Red Devils icon Paul Ince revealed Sir Alex used to do background checks on his players’ love lives, eager for them to be in ‘stable’ relationships.
‘Sir Alex liked you to be stable. He looked at your background. Didn’t want you to be out partying every night,’ he said.
When asked about their relationship Sir Alex admitted: ‘He changed, there’s no doubt about that – and all the media and celebrity attention was different from what I wanted.’
Elsewhere in the documentary, David’s friends and loved ones recalled their shock at the extreme lengths the Manchester United player would go to in order to spend time with Victoria when they first started dating.
The pair’s intense and conflicting schedule – with David at football training in Manchester and Victoria touring the world with The Spice Girls – meant that they rarely had any free time together.
Yet David didn’t let it stop him from doing all he could to meet up during their early courtship in 1997, with the sportsman confessing: ‘I didn’t care when I saw her, how much I saw her.
‘If it was me driving down to London to see her for seven minutes, I did it!’
He added: ‘Everything about Victoria, I loved. I didn’t know she was the strong woman that she was and I like that.
‘I don’t know whether it was because I wanted her to look after me… She’s a strong, strong woman. She can be a pain in the a**e though!’
