Victoria Beckham joins Harper, 12, and Cruz, 18, throw their support behind dad David
Glamorous Victoria Beckham and kids Harper, 12, and Cruz, 18, throw their support behind dad David as his team Inter Miami CF unveil new player Lionel Messi in epic stadium ceremony
Victoria Beckham was joined by her kids Harper and Cruz in supporting husband David at his team Inter Miami CF’s unveiling of new signing Lionel Messi on Sunday.
The fashion designer, 49, looked sensational in a chic cream suit while Harper, 12, was trendy in a pink dress and Cruz, 18, opted for a silk shirt.
The famously close family, also comprising Brooklyn, 24, and Romeo, 20, were throwing their support behind their famous dad at the team’s big moment as football icon Messi was welcomed on David’s US team.
Victoria suffered something of a wardrobe gaffe as she wore a near-identical ensemble to David’s Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas’ wife Aleyda Mas, with both going for the cream suit and black top look, with tumbling wavy hair.
At a stunning ceremony in Miami, led by co-owner David, Messi walked out in front of his new fans and outlined his desire to usher in a new era of success.
Ever the tight-knit unit, Victoria and two of her four kids took to the stage to show their support for the family patriarch.
Victoria’s looked elegant in her look while Harper proved she is becoming quite the fashionista in her own right in her pretty Nineties-style slip dress.
The pink hue of the trendy number was a nod to the team’s colour, which was a running theme among some of the fashion at the event, including Messi’s stunning wife Antonela, who wore bold fuschia trousers.
The on-stage gathering became something of a love-in with the whole group hugging and kissing as they marked the momentous occasion.
Speaking to the delighted fans, David started the night by giving Messi an emotional welcome speech of his own saying: ’10 years ago, I started my journey to build a new MLS team.
‘I said then that I dreamt of bringing the best players in the world Florida and the great city of Miami. Players who shared our ambition to grow soccer in this country, who would inspire the next generation and help build a legacy in this sport.
‘Please forgive me for feeling a little bit emotional tonight. It really is a dream come true to welcome Lionel Messi to Inter Miami.
‘Leo, we are so proud you have chosen this club for the next stage of your career. Welcome to the family.
‘We are also so proud to be joined by the one and only Sergio Busquets. One of the most complete midfield players of his generation.’
Messi meanwhile said: ‘Thank you very much. First of all I want to thank all the people of Miami for this welcome, this affection. I want to thank you for the kindness and love that you have given me. This has happened so fast…
‘I am very happy to be here, to be with you. I want to thank Jose (Mas, Miami co-owner), David (Beckham) for the welcome.
‘They are making everything easy for us, everything has been spectacular since we arrived. I really want to start training and compete. I want to win for the club to continue growing.
‘I hope that you will join us as you have since the season began. I thank my new colleagues for the welcome.
‘I am very happy to have chosen this city with my family, to have chosen this project. I have no doubt that we are going to have a good time. Thank you all very much for this day.’
News of the signing was soccer’s worst-kept secret for some time, but Messi is now officially an Inter Miami player, and will earn $60million a year.
While his impact will be felt far further than just on the field, coach Martino will be desperate for his former Barcelona player to light up the league and drag Inter Miami back into contention for the postseason.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will bank money from adidas shirt sales and Apple MLS subscriptions, while the deal is also said to include an option that could see him become a part-owner of the club.
Managing owner Jorge said: ‘I am honored to welcome Leo Messi and his family to their new home. In 2018, we made a promise to build an ambitious club that would attract the world’s elite players…
‘A club that would transform the global view of futbol in the United States and ensure that wherever futbol is discussed, your Inter Miami is part of the conversation…
‘A heartfelt thank you to our fans that never stopped believing. Together we will continue to turn dreams into reality.’
Inter Miami made it an incredible 11 games without a league win on Saturday night, as they fell 3-0 to St Louis City, a team competing in their first MLS season.
The team may have got their superstar through the door this week, but that has only temporarily diverted attention from the fact they haven’t won a league match since May 13 when they squeezed past New England Revolution.
